CAPI Annual Health Fair
In a world where healthcare can often feel complex or out of reach, the opportunity to speak directly with physicians, ask questions, and receive basic
screenings at no cost can be transformative.
Each year, CAPI brings that opportunity to the community through its Annual Health Fair, an initiative rooted in service, compassion, and a commitment to improving community health outcomes.

2026 CAPI President
The 2026 CAPI Health Fair invited community members to connect directly with a diverse group of physicians and healthcare professionals across multiple specialties.
Held at the Maa Durga Sri Sai Baba Temple in Orlando, the event combined education with hands – on support – meeting people where they are and empowering them with practical knowledge for everyday health.
- Visitors had access to a wide range of services in a welcoming, community-centered setting:
- Blood pressure screenings and basic health checks
- One-on-one consultations with physicians and specialists
- Preventive care guidance and wellness tips
- Health education across multiple medical fields
- A safe space to ask personal health questions
- Opportunities to connect with providers who understand and serve the local community
Through initiatives like the Annual Health Fair, CAPI continues to strengthen the connection between physicians and the communities they serve—ensuring that care extends beyond the exam room and into the heart of Central Florida.
Investing in the Future of Medicine
Advancing Medical Education
CAPI is committed to strengthening the region’s medical community by fostering education, cultural connection, and a shared pursuit of excellence. Through its educational initiatives, CAPI advances medical education while championing mentorship, diversity, cultural understanding, and medical excellence.
In 2015, in partnership with AdventHealth’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) program, the CAPI Award for Excellence was made possible through a $60,000 endowed gift from CAPI members. This endowment continues to grow, providing ongoing support for outstanding residents and faculty. Each year, the award recognizes a Resident for exemplary performance, compassion, and service; and a Faculty Physician for exceptional mentorship
and leadership. The 2025 Honorees were Dr. William Cobb and Dr. Amir Kachooei.
In 2026, CAPI is proud to congratulate Jesse Caron, MD, recipient of the CAPI Resident Award, and Thomas Shimshak, MD, recipient of the CAPI Faculty Award, recognized at AdventHealth’s 2026 Research Day. We are proud of this longstanding partnership with AdventHealth and the legacy it continues to build for the next generation.
CAPI established an endowed scholarship fund with The University of Central Florida College of Medicine to empower future healthcare professionals and honor the contributions of Indian American physicians who have long served Central Florida with excellence and compassion. The CAPI Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to medical students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and a strong commitment to community service. Beyond financial support, the scholarship represents a belief in the power of education to transform lives and a recognition of the bright potential within the next generation of physicians. In 2025, CAPI made an additional $10,000 contribution to the CAPI Endowed Scholarship Fund to support the next generation of physicians and researchers. The 2025 Scholarship recipients were Zulieka Narvasa and Charlotte Disney.

By engaging with local organizations, supporting families, and fostering cross‑cultural dialogue, CAPI ensures that medical progress translates into real impact for Central Florida and beyond.
This commitment to collaboration is exemplified through our partnership with the University of Central Florida’s India Center. A special salon reception was hosted in partnership with CAPI and The India Center at the University of Central Florida on August 10. The evening featured Dr. Thirumal Yerragunta, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences and The India Center’s Scientist-in-Residence, for a conversation centered around “Intelligent Health: The Future of Indian Medicine.”. Participants gathered for an intimate discussion of how global medical expertise and local physician leadership can come together to inspire new possibilities for the future of healthcare.
